OUR STORY
Our Beginnings
Nostalgia Connections came about nearly by accident...
Over the years I had been collecting photographic images of Alberta's landscape and the heritage of Alberta in the form of abandoned farm sites, old buildings, machinery and vehicles. I started making small prints and calendars as gifts for my clients. When I began to receive gratifying responses—and wanting to share even more of my art—I published my first coffee table book entitled "Returning Back to the Land".
Eventually, I took the opportunity to exhibit my fine art prints for sale. At one show I was approached by a young woman and an elderly gent—drawn by my imagery. I introduced her to my book; a sale was made and she was thrilled to leave with an activity tool to talk with her father about the good old days and to "find all those old places" on the country drives he loved so much!
What Happened Next
As time went by a remarkable thing happened. When people of any age—teens to seniors—would look through my book or view my prints they would often begin to reminisce and share their own experiences and tell stories. I could hardly believe it! I would hear about a car collector going to the ends of the earth bringing a vehicle home to restore, or about how an unexploded bomb was discovered many years later buried right next to the front door of a family home in Holland.
In the end, Nostalgia is all about stories. These stories and other experiences convinced me of the value of what reminiscing and sharing our stories can do. That’s when the idea for Nostalgia Connections was born!
